Q: Can I commission you to create something for my space?
A: Absolutely. I offer free consultations, and my prices are reasonable ($25 an hour... and if, one in a million, you aren't satisfied, I'll make it better for no charge).
Q: I see you do a lot of stuff. Do you have a particular medium that you focus on?
A: I tend to focus on whatever medium I need to use in order to develop the idea I have. There are ideas that are a match made in heaven with clay... and ideas that clay should get a restraining order against. Would someone build a bridge out of paper? Perhaps, but I wouldn't walk on it. I do my best to master every medium in which I usually work (photography, dry drawing media, acrylic paint and wood)... but there are occasions when I must call upon several media, if the concept is ever to be realized.
Q: Why is art you make so expensive, when I can go to the craft store and pick up a Van Gogh or a Picasso for $20?
A: Because Van Gogh doesn't have to pay living expenses. Nah. The prints by all the Old Masters that can be bought so cheaply are completely non-original, and art typically printed on the lowest-quality paper with the least light-fast inks the company can get away with. (that means the paper turns yellow in a few months and the inks start to lighten in a few years)
Most of the time, these companies also use people who are paid one-tenth the American minimum wage to produce these prints. I'm an American citizen working in America with good-quality materials designed to last... well, they won't last long if you play rugby with them, but they'll usually outlast the natural lifespan of the person who purchases them.
Other than the photography section, every piece on this site is original and unique (only one in the world) unless its page says otherwise.
Something else I might want to mention is that the Old Masters prints are worth effectively nothing once you buy them... auction sites are stuffed with art prints people are trying in vain to sell.
My work, like all originals, is worth more today than it was yesterday... because someday I won't be around to create another one. And I doubt I could create two identical pieces anyway. I may yet get back into printmaking, but that's about as close to going all corporate as I'm gonna get.
