Technically speaking, this maze could be seen as a major failure, or a minor success. I tried a type of medium I'd never previously used, which resulted in the milky covering. This could be seen as subtle, but I see it as boring. Now, technique aside, why did I make this piece? Simply put, I had never made a maze of this type in the past, and keeping with my maze series, I figured some other version of me (in some other universe/dimension) probably does. Now, that's a cop-out, so the real reason is simply that it's an experiment in overlaying the crude order of humanity over an equally-ordered, but less-understood natural foundation. Like all of my mazes, this is a tiny model of the subjective, misunderstood universe in which we all live... and it looks kinda pretty, too.
