This is part of a series of 'Oriental rugs' I've made out of scrap wood. I got bored with the anal-retentive exactitude of framing every wooden wall composition, so I began to make 'fringes' on a couple of sides, and instead of going for a purely original design, I've been basing my concept upon rugs from the multitude of countries who've been making them for millennia. This rug is so far away from anything i've ever done before that this can barely be called my work. As I write this, I can clearly recall being called 'scattered' on several occasions... and this is the proof in the pudding. I decided to use left-over paint instead of wood, and then cut back into it. This piece taught me a lot of things about multi-layer color treatments, and I can hardly wait to employ them in two and a half dimensions. I kind of like how this piece turned out, but halfway through I began to regret not having built upward. I hate urban sprawl, but I'm suddenly guilty of it.
