A Battle Under the Surface

A Battle Under the Surface

I don't like to waste things. I don't know if people get it yet, but I'm for real about this. Most people would think, when they see someone throwing away a giant piece of walnut, "What the...?" I think the same thing about plywood. Seriously. I just take flak for doing this, sometimes... elitist woodies. Getting off the scrap rant, this piece right here is about lines, connections, and arrays. I remember the first time I tried to use "array" in a sentence on paper... the teacher docked me points because my use wasn't the classroom definition, even though the dictionary supported my rhetorical decision. Stuff like that sticks in a little kid, and connects under the surface to everything he does for a lifetime. In a similar vein, I traced the grain-lines on the birch veneer of the backpiece before I attached a single thing to it. However, to the observer, it looks like I might have just found the plywood this way. Or perhaps it looks like I traced the grains after I'd framed the whole piece, with all the top parts attached (which I've done on some pieces). This piece is my reminder to myself that there is a hell of a lot more under the surface than my emotionally-disabled brain can immediately process. People also tell me it looks pretty cool.

Some of my favorite pieces

One Dusk

One Dusk

The question isn't whether it's beautiful... the question is, is it really a depiction of dusk?

Whatever you do, do NOT let the pieces fall into the hands of a small child.

It's just so... Line-y. Not to be confused with 'Limey.' Although I hear the British are pretty nautical...
