Q: Assemblage

Q: Assemblage

2004. Acrylic on sponge. 8 1/4" x 8 1/4" $89.99 plus $6.99 shipping, unframed. Click here if you want this piece.

This project represents a breakthrough on my part. It only took a few hours, start to finish, and it was 96% below budget. Okay, enough crap. This is among a series I do known as Betas, because the paints are left over from more ambitious projects I'm working on.

In this case, I felt like putting down a Q. I don't know why I like this letter so much, but its elegance just demanded expression, in the moment. I happened to have the surrounding colors on hand from another piece, so I put similar colors together.

I have to admit, my original thinking was, the bare sponge-canvas is so lovely in itself (I arranged the colors so as to form a rudimentary composition before I lifted the attaching needle), I may leave it naked, or expand it to greater size. Such lovely sentiments are for men far older than I, however; I like to color, and I only stay in lines I create.

Some of my favorite pieces

I'm not a parent. I admit I have favorites...

One Dusk

One Dusk

The question isn't whether it's beautiful... the question is, is it really a depiction of dusk?

Whatever you do, do NOT let the pieces fall into the hands of a small child.

A Battle Under the Surface

A Battle Under the Surface.

It's just so... Line-y. Not to be confused with 'Limey.' Although I hear the British are pretty nautical...
