2006. Various scrap woods on MDF board. I really don't remember how large it was. Sold! But you can always commission a similar piece.
This was the second commission I did for anyone I work with at the job I hold as of July 2007. And it really doesn't look that good in the photo -- I'm a better woodworker than photographer, especially as it relates to wood pieces. The lighting wizardly I have to attempt just to keep the whole thing from becoming a Dali-esque conglomeration of shadows almost lets me justify using ordinary incandescent light bulbs. I might as well just take them outside on a bright day...
But let's get to the piece. Hmm, if I could redo it, I would put more under-layers to give it greater depth and create a more subliminal visual rhythm, instead of just the blatancy. See, subtlety is what separates my scrap wood pieces from everybody else's scrap wood pieces. Without something a little deeper, well, you could just go buy scrap wood pieces at Wal-mart, or something.
Here's where I could give you my shpiel about how I hate wasting things. You know, just two weeks before I wrote this, I shaved the beard I was growing and made a set of artist-type paint brushes out of the hairs (and, again, scrap wood). I got a chance to avoid wasting: 1. hair, 2. wood, 3. potential profit (I sold 'em on ebay). If you've been through my site, you know I don't like to waste things. From here on out, I'm not going to beat that horse-corpse anymore. Imagine beating the corpse of a horse, and watching dead flies and fresh maggots issuing from any given opening from the force of your blow. Yuck is right. I hope you enjoy the piece more than my disgusting missives. And if you don't, I already sold it anyway.
