I've been doing the scrap thing for awhile, so my wood professor, having recently acquired more than a lifetime's worth of cabinet mouldings, offered me some. Actually, he offered me as much I wanted. Even I have limits, though. This is the first wall piece I did in which I deviated from my previous, "strictly wood only" policy... and some people think it's been a success. I used these mouldings, as variously-oriented lines, to keep the viewer's eye moving... rather like a conveyer belt. Speaking of conveyer belts, every one of my wooden wall compositions was headed straight for the dumpster. Other than occasional color treatments and varnish, these really are all scrap. While it isn't evident in the picture, I used a really cool router bit to round-over the edges of the frame. It was pretty fun. I may start doing that more often.
