2004. Lipstick and pastel on paper. 14" x 17" Not for sale (it got destroyed, just not by me). But you can always commission a similar piece.
I made this piece specifically to show at the Period Gallery's site, www.periodgallery.com. I had the lipstick because my mother was going to throw it out... and I hate wasting things. The reason I outlined a woman over a fairly unified background was because I often think we humans are full of shit... specifically in how we see ourselves as distinct from the natural order. The two extremes, of humans being sterile, completely cut-off, versus our species living in "perfect harmony with the land," are both bullshit. Whatever we do is what we want to do, because we see it as our best choice... it isn't necessarily our best choice, but imagination is a valuable commodity. This lipstick is all the lights of the city, all the steel and stone and depicted objects on flat surfaces that let us delude ourselves into thinking we're not just creatures marking territory and building personal status for the acquisition of favorable . This is a rant very close to my intestines, if you haven't noticed. If you've read this far, maybe I've made a little sense.
